Zalud comes from the Slavic word for health. In several Eastern European languages, zdravlje, zdravie, zdravi, zdrav, all share the same ancient root. They all point to the same thing: well-being, vitality, being whole.
Our founders, Dr. Emill Sanchez and Dr. Joanna Kingsley Tavarez, found something powerful in that word. Health is health in every language. It belongs to everyone. The sound of Zalud felt open and warm. It felt like something you could say to your abuela and it would feel just right.
Zalud Health was built for the Latino community in the United States. Tens of millions of people living in this country speak Spanish as their first language, were raised in a culture that puts family at the center of everything, and deserve healthcare that meets them with warmth and respect.
A name that nods to health across cultures felt right. Because Latinos in the U.S. come from many countries, many backgrounds, many stories. What unites us is not one single tradition. What unites us is the desire to be well, to take care of the people we love, and to receive care that actually understands us.
Zalud is a name that does not belong to just one place. And neither do we.
Our tagline says it all: Salud para nosotros. Health for us. Not health for some of us. Not health for those who have the right insurance, the right zip code, or the right last name. Health for our community, designed with our community in mind.
When we chose the name Zalud, we were committing to something. We were saying that the Latino community deserves a platform that was built for them from the beginning. Not translated, not adapted after the fact, not an afterthought. Built for us, in our languages, with our values woven into every part of the experience.
Zalud Health is a bilingual telehealth platform. We offer urgent care, treatment for common conditions like colds, flu, sinus infections, and pink eye, STI screening and treatment, at-home lab test kits for early detection of conditions that run in our families, and health education through Zalud University.
Everything is available in English and Spanish. Everything is out of pocket with no insurance required. And everything is designed to feel easy, clear, and respectful of your time.
Names carry meaning only when the work behind them is real. We know that. At Zalud, every provider is licensed. Every interaction is handled with the care and confidentiality you deserve. And every piece of content we create, from this blog to your lab results, is written in plain language so that understanding your health feels possible, not overwhelming.
Zalud means health. But what we want it to mean to you is something bigger. We want it to mean I have somewhere to go when I need care and I know they will understand me.

Is Zalud Health only for Latino patients?
Zalud Health is open to all adults. Our platform is deeply rooted in the Latino experience and built to serve Spanish-speaking communities, and all patients are welcome.
Do I need insurance to use Zalud Health?
No. Zalud Health is fully out of pocket. No insurance is required. We believe access to quality care should not depend on having a health plan.
What services does Zalud Health offer?
We offer urgent care for common conditions, STI screening and treatment, medication refills for chronic conditions, at-home lab test kits, and bilingual health education. We are a telehealth urgent care platform, not a primary care provider.
Is Zalud Health available in Spanish?
Yes. Every part of the Zalud experience is available in both English and Spanish, written natively in each language by bilingual providers and communicators.
